The Crutches

..........-Serious guitar squall. Like being lost in Scotland during a blizzard. Perfect soundtrack to the Icelandic volcano blast of 2010. Is this the answer to the Volcano Suns?

mike mountain EP

Mike Mountain is a band. Originally conceived as a nickname, the moniker became a stage name. The project was formed around January 2009. Steve Kelly (guitar), Jeff Gobush(bass), and Mike Almond (drums) forms the nucleus of the present lineup. M.R provided saxophone and appears on the E.P.(75 or less Records, Providence R.I) until we decided to tighten up the unit. A 7 month hiatus began at the beginning of August as I was legally institutionalized. The CD was released in November despite a lack of fanfare as were at the time disbanded. The EP was unconsciously chockful of a dark foreboding lyrical quality which prophetically spells my eventual spiralling into acute psychosis.
We played many shows(almost exclusively in our hometown) and were gradually gaining momentum amoungst friends and bystanders. My mental health-a mixture of mania coupled with delusional grandiosity-began to erode around midspring as I quit taking my psychotropic medication. Serious problems ensued and I currently hoping to sort out legal difficulties.
As a band we are proud with the recording as a start in our formation. It consists of six songs and comes in at a tidy 17 minutes. The opening track, "Goat", staggers and boasts with an almost gangster-rock quality. "Secret Soceity" displays a paranoid, conspiratorial look at modern culture. The next track, "Social Climber", is a jealous rant at a former girlfriend who took off for greener pastures. It is indeed deliberately spiteful and lashes out at the success and happiness of someone who was nothing but kind to me. "Racket" is political in nature and its wordplay(i ran, i rack) or (Iran, Iraq) is full of double meanings- a cry where I hallucinate with the fury of a zealot preoccupied with messianic leanings and political tribulation. Armageddon is apparently drawing nigh. "UK Threat", pure punk energy, catapults frenetically in which I imagine my every move tracked by diabolical surveillance methods of mindcontrol. The last song "A loan"-with its cascading surf-like breaks- hopes for deliverance -at least in the imagination.
The music throughout is groove-orientated (danceable?) while retaining an agressive edge. (My greatest inspiration is the Almighty Jesus Lizard.) In a world of noise-for-noise sake and hipster criticability, we set a course for likeability and originality. Being still a young band we have room to expand recording-wise but our live shows are always energetic and seem to please audiences. Check us out at MikeMountain5@myspace.com and get in touch for the recording. Thanks

Mirroring the states of an empty slate liberties will be taken as to include any subject I deem interesting enough. I hope you find these musings worthy of your time. Stay tuned!
